The PowerVar Fast are state of art thyristor switched capacitor banks that can follow load changes almost instantaneously. They include a high-speed controller that controls thyristors switches to provide compensation switching in less than a cycle. The firing electronic switches the modules precisely when the voltage across the thyristor module is equal zero. Thus, transient current peaks are minimized, and reactive loads are gently switched with a very low wear and tear. The device is typically switched in less than 16 ms to effectively compensate for fast fluctuating loads.
These large automatic industrial grade capacitor banks are intended for deployment on dynamic loads in environments with high harmonic distortion. It comes standard with high temperature and harmonic rated capacitor cells. It ranges from 75 to 1200 kvar and offers from 3 to 12 steps with fuse protection.
The standard design is tuned to 3.78th in order to have a resonance free power factor compensation for harmonic distorted network. The reactor core is designed with multiple air gaps to reduce the heat generated by the harmonic currents, thus increasing the performance and service life. Additional tuning frequencies are available for specific applications.
The PowerVar Fast is designed to ensure maximum safety and extended product life. The capacitor banks are built with self-healing cells with segmented metallized film that withstand high levels of harmonics. The metallized polypropylene coil immediately seals any punctured areas caused by electrical arcs. The cells are also equipped with a 3-phase overpressure disconnect to prevent them from bursting in case of excessive pressure. These capacitors have screwless terminations that secure wiring with a maintenance free, antivibration connection.
